A Portrait of Therapeutic Hypnosis

Sometimes people confuse stage hypnosis with therapeutic hypnosis. It is not the same thing, and unfortunately stage hypnosis influences the general public’s notion of hypno-therapy.

While hypnosis can be used for the purpose of entertainment, hypnotherapy uses hypnosis to help people achieve an objective, such as feeling more comfortable in airplanes, letting go of anger, boosting self-esteem and much more. The results can be just as amazing and spectacular.

For example, if a stage hypnotist gets you to “cluck like a chicken”, you may be amazed by it – but what difference does that fleeting moment make to your life? On the other hand, if a hypnotherapist substantially decreases your fear of flying, maybe you can finally consider taking that vacation in Europe. Now that is life-changing! While stage hypnotists are in business to entertain – and there’s nothing wrong with that – hypnotherapists work in the caring field of personal development, helping individuals lead healthier, happier lives.
